Whats A Really Good First Pregnancy Baby Shower Gift?

My cousin is having a baby girl! This is her first pregnancy, and she’s fairly young, 21-23 years old. The pregnancy wasn’t planned so I know there is going to be A LOT of things she’ll need!
I was wondering if any mom’s out there could help me out with the shower gift? I’m totally broke, but I’m sure I can scrounge up 40$ or so!
I live in another state and I want something that wont cost and arm and a leg to send.
<3<3<3 the help!

Does she have a name picked out? If so, how about a cute, personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? Personalized gifts are the most “unique” of all, and they are always treasured. They have cool ones under “Personalized Art” at: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ The artist is a mom. I have two for my twins: “Safari Adventures” for Brayden and “Express Train” for Bryan. The smaller one is in your price range, and the they will ship directly for you. Done!

Something to send is where it gets difficult. I think something like a subscription to a parenting magazine is a great idea – you just have to send a card. Another idea, is the good old gift certificate to a department store so she can choose her own thing. If you were looking for something more personal, there are always things such as photoframes, birth certificate holders…(I always did want one of them and never did get one), first tooth containers etc. Another idea, which is kinda cool…is a set of coins for 2008. These ideas are more keepsake things, not something she needs – although – I am sure she would like some keepsake things. Another nice thing that is one of my personal favorites is a really nice hard cover book with childrens stories…even if it isnt used alot right away – it will be eventually. Also, a nice CD of lullabies for the baby might be nice. Anyways. Hope one of these works for you.

Recieving blankets. Washclothes. Gift certificates so she could go buy stuff on her own. Maybe there is someone who lives closer to her that you can go in together and get a bigger gift and split the cost? That way you can save on shipping if the other person can get it to her? Trying looking on ebay. Maybe you can find some cute baby clothes or something like that, and instead of having it shipped to you, have it shipped to her?
    Good Luck!

I think if i were in her position I’d want something to say that I can still have fun! Even though she has a baby now. Either for her and the baby, possibly husband (if there is one?) could do all together. I have attached a site and it has a bunch of links. I think it would be great if you gave her personalized clothing with the baby’s name on it.
Or all to herself, you should look through the internet, or ask someone where the local spa would be. Give her a free spa/manicure certificate with a really cute card w/ bows. This way it’s close and relaxing! if she cannot leave the baby with someone easily see if they have a daycare and make sure the certificate doesn’t expire.

if she is fairly young and loves to stay in fashion, as most girls that age do, I found this diaper bag option that only costs $35. its a pouchmiss bag insert http://www.pouchmiss.com/home.html
have just checked the site and there is an option if you would like it gift wrapped and posted straight to your cousin. they are doing free shipping too. haven’t seen the product around much so I doubt anybody else would be getting one! much better than the usual daggy diaper cakes!

Honestly, stick with her registry, or get her a gift card. At my baby shower, I really appreciated all my gifts…but we ended up returning half of them…If you want to give her something more personal, maybe mix a gift card and small gift, at the very least include a gift receipt, you want to be sure she gets what she needs and wants :]
Also, at Babies R Us online, I believe you can send gift cards online, so that will save on shipping and handling…

basic things are very helpful everyone will be buying clothes and bath items so you get practical things no one else thinks of like the baby laundry soap (dreft) diapers wipes things of that nature i did that this past weekend and she loved it because she had like 40 little outfits and lots of bath items so to buy more of the same seemed stupid

get her a baby tub. there are some really nice ones for like $30. i am sure she will be getting a LOT of clothing so get something she will need. if you want to spend $40 you could also get bath and shampoo stuff to go with the tub! she’ll love it!

The best thing I got from my baby shower was a pair of those really fuzzy pj’s for myself and a ear themometer for the baby it was great because she thought of me and the baby and i know both gifts will go to good use.

Put a pram/cot on Layby and use the $40 for deposit, then give the receipt to the mother to be. This way, she can collect it closer to the arrival of the baby.

something special to pamper the mother….bath and bodyworks spa basket….something nice to make her not feel left out…people always forget about the mommy….mommies need love too!

Maybe a subscription (6 months or a year) for a parenting magazine – I did this for someone and she loved it!

A cute little outfit for the baby. They’re cute, not too expensive and will go down a treat!

    she will need pampers

Okay, this will sound weird, but I’ll bet nobody else gets her one, and she’ll use it. Instead of the squeezie thing you use on a baby’s nose when they’re stuffed up, they have a battery operated one now that is faster and works alot better. Babies seem like they always have something up their nose, and I use mine all the time. It also plays music to keep baby’s mind off what you’re doing. Like I said, it may sound weird, but I didn’t get one until I really needed it, and my kids won’t let the sqeezie thing anywhere near their noses. BebeSounds makes it, and has a lot of cool things for babies. http://www.bebesounds.com/products_nasal…
Since she’s young, maybe a gift certificate for a movie theatre. You may be able to arrange a broke relative who lives near her to offer to babysit (for free- as a gift) when she uses the tickets. Maybe a young cousin who could watch baby with her parents supervision, or an older, responsible one? Clothes are good, but if she gets a lot, the baby probably won’t wear them all before outgrowing them.

Why not team up with others in your family so you can get your cousin something great and personalized? Clothes are the most popular baby gift but second-most popular gift choice are personalized gifts as they can be kept and treasured for years, while they grow out of baby clothes VERY quickly! You can see who buys what types of gifts in the baby gifts survey results at http://www.itsinthestarsonline.com/verve/_resources/Nieces-and-nephews-receive-most-expensive-baby-gifts.pdf.
