Maybe just buy a few small things like cotton buds, baby wipes, baby wash/shampoo, baby powder and scented nappy disposal bags. You can never really have too many of those sorts of things but some people are fussy about brands so keep that in mind.
If its their first baby and they don’t have much, perhaps you could just buy a nice outfit or some socks or bibs or something small.
    Happy shopping.

I would recommend a diaper cake or baby gift basket. I received one after having my daughter and I thought it was a practical and unique gift because everything they in the diaper cake I could use. EX. the diapers, pacifier, lotions, washes, washcloth, etc. I would send one to my friends and family.
Not sure if thats in your budget, but you can look around and get some price points.
Here is an example of one site: http://www.sweetbabycakesnmore.com

Most babies get far to much and its a waste of good money and so many people buy for ages 6-12 months thinking they are being smart and getting something that will fit later but what they forget is if they buy now for a new baby they are buying Summer clothes which will be useless in 6 months time because it will be winter. My daughter was given so many 9 to12 month old baby clothes when her daughter was born in February and they were all summer dresses, shorts and tee shirts which were coming into the shops at that time all useless by Autumn and winter. I have now started giving an alternate gift from World Vision like a mosquito net that goes direct to a child in Africa and it really does mean the difference to life and death to them because so many of them are ding from malaria. A net starts at £5 and there are other gifts also. Just go to http://www.worldvision.co.uk or it might be .com and have a look. World Vision will send a lovely card to the baby telling it about the gift you bought.

a picture frame or a photo album as she will always use it. soooooo many photos lol or you could do the usual like flowers, clothes, vouchers, balloons, blanke… But i know i would like a nice photo frame as i hate buying them but i always need them because you take so many photos of them when they are little you can buy some nice ones now that are for babies they say stuff on them.

DIAPERS! I know this sounds absolutely ungrateful, but people give me baby clothes all the time and I have mounds of baby clothes my new little girl can no longer fit into and nothing to do with them. The best thing to buy is diapers. I would just go to Target, buy their brand, and pick out one pack of newborn and one pack of size 1. They grow SO fast! Trust me, if they are like most parents, they will appreciate it.

My new neighbors came over right after I had my son and brought a gift. I thought that was soooo nice of them, and so unexpected! They brought a little stuffed animal, a teething toy, and a card. It is really the thought that counts. A pack of onsies, burp cloths, rattles, teething toys, bibs, an outfit, pj’s, socks, diapers-any of those things are inexpensive and would be a nice gift.

NEVER BUY A BABY BOOK FOR SOMEONE! People tend to pick those out themselves it’s kinda a personal thing.
Give her something that is cheap but the baby will actually USE… diapers (BIG YES i loved when people gave me diapers for my baby) sleepers, bibs, anything like that..

Baby clothes are a great option. You can never have enough baby clothes and they will be well appreciated. Another reason why baby clothes are a good option is because there is a wide range of prices and therefore you can spend an amount that is reasonable to you. (Hope this helps).

every baby needs clothes, lots and lots of clothes… my nieces go through about two to three out fits a day because they are so messy. but i wouldn’t buy newborn clothes because they only fit them for a couple of weeks anyway, you could get him/her clothes for when he/she is older

  11. Hannah's mommy says:

Please, do not buy diapers….to me that is like buying the mom toilet paper (sorry…just me)
Just make up a small basket of board books for babies, small stuffed toys, rattles, etc. It doesn’t have to be a lot, it is just the thought that counts.

You can get a nice photo frame or one of those kits where she can put the baby’s footprint in clay for about $8 to $15.
