Well, have someone sew for you! What if you ordered a handmade gift sets with blankets, washcloths, etc… All things she could use but the gift would be completely unique to her! Or, a diaper cake. It is a good way to get them everything they need and present it in a cute little package. Everything in them can be deconstructed and used for the baby! There are a lot of ways to take typical gifts and present them in a nice, unusual, thoughtful ways!

Waffle-weave blankets (they are inexpensive) and cloth diapers make wonderful and cheap burp cloths — I used them ALL the time. Gift certificate for fast-food or pizza would be a good gift for your friend for after the baby is born. A “themed” gift is a really fun idea too. Pick up different baby-care products (nail scissors, baby tylenol, thermometer-if needed, shampoo, lotion, etc.). Or a bathtime fun gift –baby bathtub, shampoo, lotion, baby washcloth, rubber duck, etc. Everyone loves the cute clothes, but I really appreciated all of the useful items more!

etsy.com has a lot of really cool handmade things. you can go into the kids/baby section and browse.
people tend to focus on things for newborns and those get grown out of/useless in a few months. things for older babies tend to be more useful because that’s when people stop buying you stuff but finances are crunched (by maternity leave and daycare, or by only have one income)http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis…
    cute rattle/teetherhttp://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis…
diaper clutch, these are great because you just plop it in your purse instead of carrying around a huge diaper bag. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis…
    personalized blankies with designed fabricshttp://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis…
This would be cute, something that is useful for an older baby in daycare or for sleepovers with grandma

do not give her a blanket you get way to many of those. i would go with the person that said get something for mommy. like a nice nightgown to use at the hospital. or some slipppers. and for the baby i would get maybe a gift certificate for photos. i would have loved that. i have done that before and i have also did a food basket for baby. i included bowls, spoons, bibs, stage 1 fruits and vegis, and a box of rice, oats, barly. that was well recieved. you could also throw in some bottles if you know what kind mom is going to use

    Go to etsy.com
There are tons of unique gifts on there. My favorite inexpensive baby gifts are the Picky Stickies. There are stickers to take a picture with each month to show development. Too cute! I guarantee you will be the only one giving her these!

I am not sure where you are located, but there is a business called Trolley Monster and they post to the UK, NZ and all over Australia.
This is a fantastic idea as the shopping trolley is usually not so clean or comfortable for baby, but these solve all your problems!
I have posted the Ebay link here for you to see what they are all about and it might be worth contacting them direct to see if they can post to you or you could see if someone local makes them…
This is something that I wish I had when my son (aged 9 now) was born.
    Good luck!

these are real cute and made from styrophome cups but it may become a bit time comsuming. here is a picture though =)
If your good at crafts they will look a lot better. This is what my mom did for mine they were really cute =)
Oh sorry you said gift i thought u meant favors… let me think for a minute lol
If you can cross stitch a cute small cross stitch of somethign you know she is fond of would be really nice for inside the babys room. Or even the little containers for “my first hair” “my first tooth” and there is the hand prints kit

maybe something specifically for your friend. like put together a “pampering basket” for her with comfy pjs, slippers, lotion all that stuff. my husband’s aunt gave me a basket full of goodies for myself (in addition to a basket of baby goodies) and it was great.

At my baby shower my best friend gave me a basket of all the “little things” that no one ever gets for you and you forget to get for yourself. Do you have kids? Are there things you found after your baby(ies) were born that you wish you’d had from day one?

Can you knit or sew? My mom would always make baby blankets for her friends and they really loved them. I still have one that she made me when I was a baby, it’s really sweet.

Well for my nephews shower i gave my sister personalized Bibs. They were bibs and i had her baby’s name printed on them with special designs…she loved the so much she never wanted to use them

  14. What about a personalized swaddle? I was given a Cocooi at my son’s baby shower and it has been one of the gifts that I have used the most since he was born 4 months ago. It’s made of a beautifully soft merino fabric and very snuggly, plus it prevents him from overheating, unlike some of the other polyester swaddles.
My Aunt had a sweet little note embroidered on it in the same color thread as the swaddle and it’s gorgeous.
