Get something personalized that gives the baby’s birthdate. You can find things like that at the Mall or in a gift store. After my kids got to be 30, it is fun to look back at those things. We also love the framed baby photo and announcement from the newspaper.

Books books and more books!!! Babies need to be read to everyday! Get books for mommy to read only, get books for baby to tear up only…babies learn about reading by mouthing the books first and then they watch others read! Reading is number one most important skill!! Have fun starting the library!

MONEY FOR COLLEGE, don’t spend your money on toys and things that will dissapeared eventually, open a savings account or even better a Certificate of Deposit. Imagine that her 18th Bday gift, started when she was only ONE!!!

Get diapers!!! It might not be as meaningful, but ask any parent what they need the most.
    DiAPERS!

IF U HAVE PICTURES OF THE BABY…MAKE HER A SCRAP BOOK..PUT IT TOGETHER FOR HER, BE CREATIVE, IF YOU DON’T HAVE PICTURES..ASK HER FAMILY TO GET YOU SOME..SO SHE WON’T KNOW……SHE WILL LOVE IT..I PROMISE!!!

My daughter received a ride on car for her 1st b-day. One of those where you Flintstone style it around the room. She is 2 and a half now and still loves it.

I gave my baby cousin a big set of sailor bath toys, and electronic car keys. I then got the mother a bracelet with the baby’s name “Ethan” engraved on it. She loved everything!

I would pick out my favorite book from when I was a kid and then I would write a really meaningful message on the inside front cover. My Aunt Cathy gave me a Winnie the Pooh book on my first birthday. I have it to this day because she wrote about how much she loved me and how she knew I would turn out to be a great person. The message is dated 7-6-84. I cherish it!!!

If you don’t have kids and have to buy a baby gift, this might help! A baby gifts survey found that people are most likely to buy baby clothing for work colleagues and friends, and personalized gifts or baby equipment if it’s your adult sister/sister-in-law or cousin having the baby.
People spend more per person on group gifts if it’s for their niece or nephew, but less if it’s for their work colleague’s baby. Read more at http://www.itsinthestarsonline.com/verve/_resources/Nieces-and-nephews-receive-most-expensive-baby-gifts.pdf
