What Is A Good Baby Shower Gift?

My friend is having her baby in July/August and her baby shower is coming up. She’s 17, and she’s having a girl. What would be a good gift to get taking into consideration her age and it being a girl?

most people think of a newborn when they have a baby shower. the best thing that i could think of right now are toys, bathtoys and clothing from 9 months and older because most people get the 0-6 months clothing. a jumperoo is an excellent gift. my baby had it since 4 months and is now 7 months.and still uses it. a bumbo seat is cool to . check those out on line. neat gift for a decent price. size four diapers seem to be the ones babies are in the longest so thats always an option. a snowsuit might be something noone is thinking of also but hard to find this time of year. smilesaver plan or any plan to a photography studio like jc penny or sears ect. for a year or two of portraits without sitting fees to take the important pictures of the baby..

A pink bumbo or a swing. Those are my most tresured items as a new parent. You can get bumbos at Target.

If the parents have gift list go with want they choose most times its exactly what they want and really need and if they don’t go according to your budget.

Diapers are the best gift! Also clothes but larger sizes. My aunt got me a couple outfits for each age (newborn, 1-3 months, 3-6 months…etc) for my son. Everyone buys newborn clothes but the baby usually grows so fast they can’t wear them all! It’s nice to have clothes that they can grow into. And it’s less the parents have to buy when the baby grows out of a size.

Since she is 17, I am willing to bet this is her first baby and she is not well set up financially. This means she is going to need a lot of practical items for baby.
If this is true for your friend, check if she has a registry and buy something you know the baby will need off that. If she doesn’t have a registry, you can make a basket with baby care products (something every new mom needs) like baby wash, wipes, powder, receiving blankets, bottle supplies (if she is bottle feeding), etc.
Another really nice thing for new moms is to get some larger sized clothes (3-6 mos, 3-9 mos.) for baby. Everyone always buys the cute tiny (and useless) newborn outfits. While they are adorable, lots of babies are born too big for them, or outgrow them quickly. So then mom is left with tons of never worn but beautiful outfits and a naked baby! Onsies in various sizes make great gifts. She may not ooo and ahhh over them the way she will other gifts, but you can be guaranteed she will think of you often as she does baby’s laundry – it will be one of the few gifts she still uses a month after baby arrives.
For a girl that young, babysitting coupons may be a generous and very appreciated offer as well.

    absolutely no diaper cakes.

a sound machine is kind of different and important.

also look at a Patemm Pad. they’re round, portable diaper pads that also hold a couple diapers/wipes. good for short trips etc. very cool designs. they have a site.

    good luck

    no diaper cakes!

go for a sound machine. they’re different and really important for sleep.

also look at a Patemm Pad. they’re round, portable diaper changing pads. they hold a couple diapers/wipes/change of clothes and they fold up nice and neat so good for short trips. nice alternative to big bag.

    go to these links!!!
    Diaper cakes!!
They make “Diaper cakes” that are basically every essential for an infant made like a “cake” Very cute

well if it’s her first baby she could probably use everything. i’d ask her what she already has and what she needs. other than that, diapers and lotions are usually much appreciated. when people used to mostly use cloth diapers, you could make a “diaper cake” they are usful and pretty, too. or, what about making coupons for free babysitting, etc. onesies and bibs are always good. here’s some diaper cake links:http://entertaining.about.com/cs/showers…http://short_cake1973.tripod.com/dwinst/…

  11. kacey says:

A diaper genie. Or crib sheets/linens–a mom can never have too many of those! You could also consider asking her if there’s something specific that she needs, since she may have fewer financial resources to buy what she needs. Or you could get her a gift card to a baby store.

  12. I love my baby boy!! says:

Expecially since she is 17 and i know teens love they’re fashon. I would buy the baby a frilly pink dress and go a head and stick a gift certificate for a movie theater or somethin for mama so she can get away for the nite. I did that and the parents loved it. They werent expecting to get something for themselves

Uhm her age doesn’t matter the gift isn’t for her it is for her child.
And find out if she has a registry and get something off that

Diapers and wipes! You can always get a pack of prefold diapers and pins. She can use them as burp clothes and the convert them to diapers in a pinch.
Don’t go for the froufrou baby items. Buy her the necessities!
Offer to babysit if you feel comfortable. Things may get tight if she’s supporting this baby by herself.
Books! Its always important to encourage moms to read to their babies.

  15. lilmama says:

You could always go get her something personalized with the babies name. Alot of baby places now have monogramming and its fairly cheap. You can get her a personalized diaper bag, bibs….even outfits with the name on the butt. Those are so cute. Or you could try making her something, a hand made personalized photo album and you can decorate it. Or a soft blanket. Good luck and best wishes for your friend!

Depends on how much money you are planning on spending..
There is so many great girl gifts! My fav (but I had a boy) was a diaper bag just full of clothes and bottles and suckies just everything you need! I also got a cute 3 wheel umbrella stroller, and a great pair of jeans to wear after the baby.
    Enjoy the shower!

How about a diaper cake? She is definitely going to need the diapers, and this is a really attractive and memorable way to give them. Have a look:http://www.diapercakewalk.com

A fisher price aquarium for the crib. My daughter LOVES hers and they are very soothing even for tiny babies. This will help her get the baby calm at night.

  19. stoners_ says:

get her a monitor, there are some with cameras now.

  20. Sheri R says:

I’d say get her the book “What to Expect Baby’s First Year.” Its good for first time mothers, especially young ones who may not have been around babies too often.

I think the coolest thing I have is belly cast I did during my pregnancies with my children. It is very original and memorable. I gave it to my cousin at her shower it went over pretty well. Here is the site you can get it off of or you can find it at Burlington Coat Factory-Baby Depot (if you have that in your area). This is a good gift so she can remember her pregnancy.
Since she is younger though and may need more stuff I agree. Diapers are great not too many Newborn though babies outgrow them quickly. Clothes are good, again keep the small sizes to a minimum parents always prefer to buy the teeny clothes as they are not small forever. A little baby tub filled with bathing needs is nice. Both my children loved the Oceans Wonder Aquarium Crib toy, Cradle/swing, and bouncer. If you are going in on a gift with someone else the aforemention cradle/swing was a godsent for me and good stroller is great as well.

  22. AnxiousM says:

Diapers!!!! Seriously, if she does not have much support or if money is tight…diapers. If she is doing good and has a lot of support…get her something you know she can use. Like receiving blankets or onesies (0-3 months, not newborn…they only last a little while). Sometimes it is just best to ask what she needs. If she doesn’t know, then ask what she already has…to make sure there is no repeats.

  23. Lindsey R says:

an infant bathtub that fits in the sink

  24. monalisa says:

A good baby shower gift is a robe and some house shoes, so when she goes into labor she can be comfortable. Dont forget a baby duckie for the baby

  25. babygirl says:

Don’t get her a diaper cake. Just from personal experience mine is collecting dust, never been taken apart.
Check to see where she is registered and follow what she registered for. If she isn’t registered just get her a gift card. I registered and still ended up with so many duplicates because people didnt use the registry it was a serious pain to take all the stuff back. Good Luck.
