Hi I think that one of the greatest treasures I have from when my son was born is a casting that was taken of his hands and feet that were then put in a frame with his photo. There are Do it yourself casting kits on ebay, or you can book an appointment to have them come to your house or you can go to thier business to have them done. You could give the new mum & dad a gift voucher to get one of these. I think that they are fantastic because the framed feet and hands are sooooo tiny and is a lifetime memory recorded of how little they are.

Purchase a baby hamper for the nursery or a bath basin and fill it with baby powder and lotion, q-tips, diaper rash oint. baby comb and brush, assorted jars of baby food and juices, baby cereal, nursing bottles and nipples, pacifier, thermometer or anything else u can think of that a mother might need in caring for baby. Wrap in a flannel blanket and tie with a bow. Keep in mind the items that people usually don`t give as baby gifts, but things the mother will need in daily usage.

Price is no option? Cold hard cash!!!!! Unique is in the eye of the buyer. What you think is unique, could be a real pain in the butt to someone else and they wouldn’t tell you the truth just to keep you from feeling hurt. Cash seems so impersonal but, if left to a choice of a gold plated thing-a-ma-bob or something practical that can be USED to ones own needs… well think about it. I was strapped for a gift idea for my God son and gave money and a coupon book I had made for babysitting. I would watch the boy for free OR they could give the coupon to a babysitter of their choice and I would redeem the value of the sitters fee. THEY LOVED IT!!!! By the way there were twenty coupons in the book, and it took them the better part of six years to use them all and I made them all GOOD!!

diaper cakes are s neat idea and your gift will be remembered. They stick out above the rest and they vary in all different price ranges. Every one loves them plus many have never seen them.

My usual baby shower gift is a stuffed animal dressed up in a baby outfit and wrapped in a cuddly baby blanket. :)

Cook meals…casseroles and stuff. Put them in freezable containers. That way they can freeze them and just defrost and heat once the baby comes home!!! It was sooo nice to not have to think about cooking meals when I was trying to learn how to take care of a baby.
Mommy & Baby exercise videos? My baby and I love that time we spend together.
IF money REALLY isn’t a problem…Hire a maid to come help take care of house chores/cooking for a week or 2…or hell even a month if it’s feasable.
Gift certificates/Money to help them purchase the items that didn’t get purchased from their registry.
If we hadn’t gotten one we would have had to go out and buy a sleep positioner the first day we brought him home.
That’s all I can think of!

You could do a diaper cake. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Layer same or different size diapers from preemie, newborn, 1,2 etc. and please use pampers… they are the best (I am a new mom who has tried all the others because they were cheaper or advertised different things). Anywho… Start a layer by rolling a diaper up longwise then just continue rolling them on top of each other until you get the desired thickness and repeat until you have the number of layers that you want(each layer can be a different size diaper, oh and secure layers with ribbon or string) “decorate” the cake with rattles, pacifiers (I recommend the gerber nuk starlite), toys anything really that you find cute or mom has on registry. Small items work best. Or put together a diaper bag of essential stuff. If you know that mother will be breastfeeding put in disposable nursing pads, milk storage bags, a chic nursing cover, lap pads(the good ones that are thin and flat) pacifiers, a unique bib.
If price really doesn’t matter… get a rockin awesome pram/stroller combo. These can range anywhere from $150-$2500. You can get green, blue, yellow, grey or red… I guess it really depends on what mom and dad would like, but imo those are gender neutral colors.
