How Much Would You Spend On A Baby Shower Gift?

I’ve never attended a baby shower before, but I was trying to gauge how much I should spend on a present. The couple are friends but not VERY close.

Look on her registry and pick a gift. It doean’t have to be expensive, anything is truly appreciated. I would suggest that you build a gift basket. Maybe you could buy a baby bath tub and fill it with washcloths, baby shampoo/wash , Johnson & Johnson vapor bath wash (for when baby has a cold), lavender wash (for night time baths), lotion, baby oil, hooded towel or robe, some rubber duckies, bath thermometer, brush and comb set, pre-soaped wash cloth (great for newborns) … etc. Of course you wouldn’t need to include all of this.. there just ideas but i loved the bath set i recieved!

$20 or so. I usually just get an outfit or a pack of diapers

$25-$50 depending on the closeness of the friends. One thing that is a very handy gift is batteries (all sizes) a small screw driver set and an electric scissors. These arent for the babies obviously.
But the couple is probably going to get a ton of gifts, that require batteries – like swings, mobiles, bouncers. Need the screwdriver to open the battery door. and the electric scissors to get thru all the packaging. And every holidays from then on will be the same.

  5. Sunshine says:

$25 if you are not very close.

  6. Josie Rae's Mommy says:

Depends on how close you are to them if family member I would say 30 -50 Dollars if friend 20- 30

  7. Susan says:

You can buy a wonderful blanket for $20 or a picture frame.
Try going to Home Goods, Marshall’s, Target or T.J. Max. You will find name brands at great discounts.

I just spent $29.99 for a wearable baby blanket
for my good friend who is having a baby soon.
On her registry, she signed up for gifts as low
as $10 and up to $100, etc.
I think it is pretty much up to you.

It really depends on how well I know the parents to be as well as how I am related to the person. For family that I am close to I would easily drop $50-$100 because it’s close family. For friends that are close and that have been long term I’d probably spend $25-$50. For friends that I know but that I don’t feel especially close with I would spend between $15-$20.
Since your not very close with the parents to be I wouldn’t feel obligated to spend a whole lot. Some inexpensive but well appreciated gifts for new babies include:
    * onesie shirts/sleepers in nuetral shades
    * burp cloths and bibs
    * a baby tub with some baby washcloths, baby wash, lotion and a rubber ducky
    * a couple of hooded bath towels for baby
    * a baby first aid kit or care items kit
    * a diaper genie (those are not expensive at all)
    * a must have gadget basket with a diswasher basket for bottle tops/parts, a couple pacifier clips, baby bottle cleaning brush, travel diaper wipes case, some child proofing items like cupboard locks, corner bumpers and light socket plugs.

I generally spend $10-$50 depending on the friend. If it’s on the lower end, it’s usually because I’m skint and going in on something together with another friend. If you’re close, but not that close, about $25. Pick something off the registry and you’ll do fine.

I usually put about thirty dollars in a gift unless the person is very close then I go up to 200.00 depends on the person and how close to them I am.

Twenty Bucks should be a good limit… You could get a lot with that… You should just buy a package of diapers.. Thats a great gift for under 20 and they are super useful.
Try Newborn size or size one of any brand… My favorite is one of the most expensive: Pampers:)

  14. Loida O says:

first thing you need to know is her baby registry if she has one
    and whats your budget
so its not the price really that counts is the thought
so whatever you think is affordable for you without going overboard
    so good luck with that

  15. AJ says:

    $30-$50

  16. ninjette says:

I guess it would depend on how close you are to the person having the baby.
If you are really close, then I suggest atleast $50
If not,I suggest you buy the newborn clothes, because that would be most useful, and not extremly expensive.
    Good Luck,Hope this helps.
