Giving Baby Food As A Baby Shower Gift?

Is it weird to give baby food as a baby shower gift. I have two baby showers in the same weekend and I am short on money and my daughter wont eat all of the fruit baby food i bought her so i was thinking of making up a basket and putting those baby foods in it and some other little odd and ends things like baby shampoo, brush, lotion, nail clippers and that kinda thing….is the baby food a bad idea tho? i mean i dont want everyone looks at me like im crazy…im just trying to go cheap here

I think it would be okay depending on the presentation of the basket. If there is more food in the basket then it will look cheap.

What if you took it back to Walmart, given that Walmart sells the brand of baby food you have. Walmart is really good about returning anything for cash/gift card, just tell them it turned out your daughter is allergic and cannot eat it. Then take the cash and buy some items to put into the basket. I think the basket set of several odds and ends is a great idea, I’ve done that many times. Good luck!!

I would look at you like you were crazy, and a cheap ***.
Some babies will never eat jarred baby food. Even if they do, they will not eat it for at least 4-6 months.
If you are strapped for cash, buy something small like a blanket, a toy that was a favorite of your daughters, some books, etc. It is the thought that counts.
I would much rather a small inexpensive *nice* gift than a basket that is obviously someones *seconds*

If you know for sure that the baby will eat the type of food that you give, i don’t see why it’s inappropriate. If not, stick to the shampoo and the rest, it’ll do good. I will be happy to get those for my baby and the food too.

As long as the food will last long enough for the baby to enjoy it, I don’t see why not!! I think that is a great idea and I think the new mom will appreciate the gift. She never has to know it is left over items, either!

I think that it is OK, just put it in a basket and put some things like spoons and feeding accesories in it like sippy cups and bottles, nipples, that would be cute.

I Love the idea of baby food!!! I am going to a baby shower in a month and I am trying to think of ideas. I may do that but not sure yet. Thanks for the idea and good luck.

i made my own food for my baby which many people do so i would not have used it if it were me. just give the other odds and ends and leave out the baby food.

uhhhh… I don’t know. baby food for a baby shower? that stuff is like 50 cents a jar. you run the risk of looking cheap, but if you want to make up a basket go ahead. its the thought that counts!

  10. made you look = ) says:

I think it good idea as long as the expiration inst to early for the new baby. It will look very put together if you put it in a basket also.

  11. Emmy the Nurse says:

No it’s a good idea as long as it has a used by date at least six months after the due date.

Yeah. Not everybody uses that slop, for one.

  14. BX Bunny says:

Don’t do baby food. She won’t use it for about 4-6 months anyway. Stick with the non-food items.

Sounds like a good gift to me! I’d just check the expiration dates on the food to make sure it will be able to be used when the new babies are old enough! I’ve regifted baby stuff too, in fact what you describe is my usual baby shower gift plus any extra coupons, samples, ect that I have laying around. I usually include some of my favorite products like the diaper rash cream that I love and the best nail clippers i’ve found, ect. I like to put in something for the new momma too, like a nice lotion or some fuzzy slipper socks to wear on the cold, slippery hospital floors.
Have fun at the showers and don’t stress about the gifts and remember presentation is half the gift, a cute basket that can be reused in the nursery is a great base for filling with cheap but practical gifts!
